The Day We Went Gothic

The Day We Went Gothic

Arched doorways, glittering chandeliers, and turrets - was this our appearance in a period drama or our visit to an opulent wedding venue…

A walk on the dramatic side

We recently travelled to the green London suburbs to take some photos of 120 of our limewash chiavari chairs. As we stepped into the venue, it was like being transported to a different era, and as we looked around we started putting together tips on bringing a gothic vibe to your events

Want a gothic infusion? Here’s what you need!

When you want to create a feeling of drama, then gothic has it all. It’s a perfect theme for all kinds of occasions, from sumptuous masked balls, to murder-mystery evenings, Halloween parties and even weddings, as we found out when we went to see our most recent client.

1. A place with a past?

The historical building we visited used to form part of a larger estate dating back to the 1700s. Back in the 18th Century, the owner decided on a gothic theme, adding all those stunning elements that bring an almost haunting vibe and stunning look to the location. Arched corridors, opulent chandeliers and windows looking out on to amazing scenery all combine to give you a ready-made gothic venue, with a sense of past that only adds to the atmosphere. Choosing a location that’s offers all this character takes a lot of the effort out of designing a location with a historical ambiance - it’s already there!

2. Decor isn’t only for the hall

The room in the venue where the wedding was taking place didn’t only have gothic architectural touches, but the decor itself was totally in keeping with the overall look of the location. Soaring oil paintings, an immense fireplace, silk wallpaper and wood flooring all added to the atmosphere even more. But you don’t have to stop there, another way to increase the historical look of your event location even more is to have a dress code! It goes without saying, that parties such as those held over Halloween will feature guests dressed up, but for other occasions you can suggest a type or theme also.

Letting visitors know that you’d like them to pick outfits from a certain era is expected for many functions, and giving a bit of guidance can really up the gothic look to your occasion.

3. Furniture with a historical feel…

So you have the building looking dramatic, the guests dressed to the nines - have you remembered to get the best type of furniture rental product for your occasion? Well, we’re here to help you with all your chair and table hire requirements, for ANY type of event. You could take a tip from our most recent client and opt for our elegant and timeless Chiavari chairs, which added a real touch of sophistication to the deluxe and historical surroundings.

We also have lots of products for other events too, our cube seating is ideal for gallery openings, while our Barcelona chairs are perfect for classy corporate parties, and more.
