Who are Aerobility?
Aerobility, founded in 1993 is a UK charity dedicated to making aviation accessible to people with disabilities. They offer flight training, simulator sessions, youth programs, and virtual aviation experiences. Their mission is to empower individuals by providing the freedom and confidence that comes with flying. They also support educational initiatives and foster community engagement through various events.
Their website includes some of the flyers' stories which are not only heartwarming but also incredibly inspiring, showcasing the transformative impact of Aerobility's programs. These experiences demonstrate how flying can empower individuals with disabilities, boosting their independence. The personal journeys shared reflect the positive changes that aviation brings to their lives, highlighting Aerobility's dedication to making flying accessible for everyone.
Blackbushe Open Day and Fly In
Nearly 10 days ago, The Blackbushe Air Day held their annual celebration of aviation, offering fun for the whole family with static aircraft displays, food, drinks, live entertainment, a history hub, and trade stalls. Attendees were able to experience flights on Scillonia Airway’s Dragon Rapide, Adventure 001’s Jet Ranger Helicopter, and SEMET Aviation’s Cessnas. This year, over 100 aircraft and 150 classic cars, including historical aircraft from Blackbushe’s past, were on display.
As part of the day, Laura, Virtual Services Manager at Aerobility produced a show called Aerobility Live. The whole idea was to show exciting and interesting aviation talks with experts from across the industry and help promote the work they do to help the disability community access aviation. We can’t help but mention, as furniture geeks, the super quirky table which was set alongside our sofas. You could easily miss the construction itself and whilst we have many coffee tables we showcase ourselves, the Aerobility one is simply genius! Laura actually informed me the coffee table was loaned to them by Aerotiques, a fabulous company that has always supported the charity and makes amazing furniture pieces from actual aeroplane parts!
